8th Century Orthodox church in Moudania, Turkey, for sale
The Church of Taxiarchs, third oldest Orthodox temple in the world is for sale by its owner
UPD:
For four hundred thousand Turkish pounds any buyer can purchase the Church of Taxiarchs in Moudania, Turkey. It is the third oldest orthodox church in the world, and it is now up for sale.
The church can be found in the village of Kumgiaka and dates back to the 8th Century, during the reign of Emperor Constantine the Sixth (780-797).
Ten years ago, this historic church was bought by Constantinople-based businessman Mete Yalcin, who planned to restore it to its former glory but the Turkish government body responsible for historic sites did not grant him the necessary permission.
The village president desired to buy it, but he found the amount of money requested to be too large a sum, thus deciding to haggle for half-price. He also reported that his appeal for financial aid sent to the Ecumenical Patriarchate was denied.
"If they give us 200.000 Turkish pounds, we can buy it, in order to restore it and make it available as a tourist attraction", he noted.
Every year, according to local authorities, hundreds of tourists come from all around the world to visit this monument of Orthodox history.
