Keep your garbage on your balconies!

New 24-hour strikes have been decided by the garbage collection workers, which will culminate in a demonstration outside the Ministry of Internal affairs. After the meeting there will be talks about further action.

The employees are asking for the Collective Labour Contract to be signed and to get the go-ahead for 500 new employees - a decision that had already been made in the past, when these 500 positions were to be filled through an examination already conducted, but were subsequently frozen due to the Memorandum.

During the strike, workers will only collect special waste, such as hospital refuse and waste from open air food markets.

The Municipality of Athens has already issued guidelines to citizens about not depositing their garbage in the municipal waste disposal bins, keeping them instead on their own balconies, so as to not intensify the problem, until Wednesday 24 November.
