France: Legislation allows employees to enjoy their personal life
France: Legislation allows employees to enjoy their personal life
An attempt by the state to alleviate employees' burden
It's not enough that the French only work 35 hours a week, they are now legally free to not work after 6 p.m.
After research done in France, it was pointed out that through technology, employers can “bother” their employees with e-mails and phonecalls whenever they feel like it. Thus, the French government decided that it is illegal to have any form of professional contact after 6p.m.
The legislation, which affects around 1 million employees of tech and service companies (including resident employees of Google, Facebook, Deloitte and PwC), means that they are barred from replying to any e-mail on professional matters after 6 p.m., in an attempt by the state to allow them to have... a personal life.
