Epidemic proportions: Flu victims reach 101

The flu virus takes epidemic proportions in Greece since today Wednesday it claimed its 101st victim.
The wave of seasonal influenza remains high, causing deaths and sending patients with severe complications in ICUs (Intensive Care Units).
The dead from the flu reached 100 early in the morning today, however, within a few hours another person died. According to HCDCP 48 patients are hospitalized in serious condition in an ICU.
The majority of the victims had not been vaccinated despite belonging to high-risk groups (elderly, chronically ill, obese, etc.). Of the vulnerable population groups, patients with respiratory problems have come first in the list of flu victims this year, followed by patients with cardiovascular diseases. Diabetics, as well as immunosuppressed patients were helpless and unvaccinated against the influenza viruses.
From the beginning of the virus’s outbreak in Greece 266 people have been hospitalized in ICUs, confirming the fears of the KEELPNO scientists about the size of a flu epidemic.
Experts estimate that the wave of influenza will remain at a high point for at least another three weeks.
