Tsipras: Three elections - one option: To win
Tsipras: Three elections - one option: To win
SYRIZA gives a character sociopolitical conflict to the elections
As demonstrated by Alexis Tsipras’ speech in the first campaign rally of the party, SYRIZA will attempt to convert the European elections and the elections in local government to an informal referendum on the Greek government’s policy. The upcoming elections will be the first where SYRIZA will participate as a party of the opposition and so the success bar has risen significantly. As it was recently shown, the party is in search of partnerships with people not belonging to its traditional space, but without abandoning the effort to promote young members from the inside.
The motto "three elections - one choice: to win" clearly shows SYRIZA’s choice to group the elections and give them a national - political nature.
Regarding the local elections, Tsipras said that "starting with the regions and large municipalities, we will give a battle that will include all the major issues and takes the nature of a frontal social and political confrontation. Yesterday I heard a mayor of the governmental logic publicly wondering: What do memoranda have to do with garbage? Well, memoranda and dirty cities, ravaged kindergartens, drained social services, and everything in local government are all related."
His mention of the European elections was of the same character. He said that while previously they were thought of as a kind of national poll, a showdown with limited interest in civic life, today they are not that way at all. He described these elections as the "most critical in the history of Greece and Europe. Whether the memorandum and coalition forces of Greece want to or not, the European elections will be a referendum on the memoranda, the troika, the inhuman and destructive policies of austerity."
He also linked the outcome of the European elections with margins of maneuvering and moves that the government of SYRIZA will have. "The result of the European elections, will judge what correlations and in which Europe, Greece will have to fight with the upcoming government of SYRIZA."
