ELSTAT: New rise in unemployment at 28%
Youth unemployment at 61.4% - 1,069,341 unemployed, according to OAED
Unemployment in Greece is moving to a new record as in November 2013 it rose to 28% from 27.7% in October 2013 and 26.3% in November 2012, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority.
The unemployed totaled 1,382,062 persons, an increase of 78,041 compared to November 2012 (+6.0%) and 5,698 compared to October 2013 (+0.4%).
The number of employed amounted to 3,550,679 persons, reduced by 112,752 compared to November 2012 (-3.1%) and 35,726 compared to October 2013 (-1.0%).
The economically inactive, that is, people who are not working or looking for work increased by 36,448 persons compared to November 2012 (+1.1%) and 6.331 compared to October 2013 (+0.2%).
Amongst young people of 15 - 24 years, unemployment rose at 61.4%, followed by those of 25-34 years (38.4%), 35-44 years (24.6%), 45-54 years (21%), 55-64 years (16.3%) and 65-74 years (10%).
In the list of the devolved administrations in the country, the top positions are taken by Macedonia - Thrace (29.7%), Attica (28.9%), Epirus - Western Macedonia (28.8%), Crete (27.5%) , Thessaly - Central Greece (26.9%), Aegean (26.1%) and Peloponnese - West Greece - Ionian Islands (25%).

1,069,341 unemployed according to the OAED
The total of registered unemployed amounted to 1,069,341 persons for December 2013, setting a new record according to the Manpower Employment Organization (OAED) data. The number is increased by 4,882 persons compared to November 2013 and by 80,919 compared to December 2012.
Of those registered, 859,408 state the search for a job as their first criterion, while 420,850 are classified as long-term unemployed (48.97%). Of the unemployed only 170,015 get the allowance. It should be noted that unemployment among the age group of 30-54 steadily persists on high levels over 60%.
