IKA: More than 1 million euros loss from illegal widowhood pensions
11,255 pension cases investigated for illegal issuing
The loss from illegal issuing of widowhood pensions exceeds 1 million euros, according to the administration of the Social Security Organisation (IKA).
In a statement on the occasion of the arrest of three citizens who were receiving widowhood pensions due to death while already being in a second marriage, thus damaging the Organisation by 328,000 euros, the administration says that IKA services are investigating 11,255 pension cases of this class for other illegal issuances.
The audits are carried out in close collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, through crosschecks of electronic files, while after identifying the offenders the responsible branches are progressing in charging the undue payments and prepare a criminal case file.
