Gearing up towards Papakonstantinou’s reference to the Special Tribunal
With the overwhelming majority of 234 MPs, the Greek parliament decided to add the crime of infidelity at a felony degree to the already heavy indictment of George Papakonstantinou.

The result of the secret ballot that followed the discussion of a proposal of 54 MPs from ND, PASOK and Democratic Left is as follows: 265 MPs voted, 234 in favor, 21 against, 7 declared just present and 4 votes were invalid/blank.

In his plea before the voting, Papakonstantinou saw enemies everywhere, claiming he is the scapegoat of a political system that seeks culprits. With broken arguments and legalistic questions he blamed Evangelos Venizelos and John Diotis for not utilising and hiding the Lagarde list. "With my referral, some in government think they will make society forget the fact that they implement a tougher version of what they were denouncing until last year's election," he said.

Zoe Konstantopoulou of SYRIZA heralded new proposal to extend the research of the Committee to Venizelos as well.

Commenting on what Papakonstantinou said in parliament, PASOK members said "we understand his difficult position. But it is unfortunate to adopt SYRIZA’s logic of political scheming that has collapsed miserably, through self-evident elements that ridiculed the sycophants."

Preliminary investigation committee reaches final stretch

The decision includes the documentation of any criminal offense of felony infidelity to the responsibilities of the parliamentary investigation committee, which, to a satisfactory extent, has been legally documented by a revealing document sent recently by the French authorities which proves that Papakonstantinou officially received the original CD for a tax audit.

The members of the committee are expected receive the findings of the Financial Crime Unit for relatives of the former minister that were removed from the list on Monday 06/10/2013 where they have located a black hole of 1.85 million euros which, if confirmed in the final outcome, will include the offense of distortion at felony level except that of infidelity. Also, the parliament decided to give a new small extension at the committee until 25.6.2013 (the previous expires on 06/17/2013).
