Earthquake of 4.4 on the Richter scale rocked Attica just before 5 am, with an epicentre at Pikermi.

As the official announcement of the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens read, the earthquake occurred at 04.56 in the morning Tuesday, 24th km east of Athens and 4 km southeast of Pikermi, with a focal depth of 10 km. It was felt throughout Attica, Evia and Corinth. In Pikermi, several residents took to the streets.

According to what seismology professor Kostas Makropoulos said at the morning broadcast of Mega, the area has no burdened past of big earthquakes, the rift is small and there is no reason for concern.

Speaking on NET, Geology Professor Efthimios Lekkas said Spata and the Artemis region give fairly frequent earthquakes, of small size, as there are no major rifts.

According to seismologists, due to the small size of the vibration they cannot yet be certain that this was the principal earthquake. There are no reports of damages, and so far there have been no aftershocks.
