According to what was said in the Greek parliament by the vice minister of Justice Kostas Karagounis, his ministry is looking for a camp in Attica to transfer detainees for financial crimes.

Speaking about the problem of congestion in Greek prisons, Karagounis explained that "we seek places in rural detention facilities for those with sentences to 2 years due to financial crimes. These are temporary solutions until the completion of new structures in rural facilities. We are also looking for a camp in Attica which with the appropriate configuration will be able to host people under more humane conditions."

Karagounis added that "67% of the prison population are foreigners. If we didn’t have them, then the prisons would have been enough for Greek prisoners," and added that negotiations are underway with his Albanian counterpart so that the Albanian prisoners get transferred from into Albanian prisons.
