Unemployment in Greece at 26% in September 2012

Unemployment in Greece rose to 26% in September 2012, an increase of 0.7% compared to August and of 7.1% compared to September 2011, according to the Eurostat figures released Tuesday.

This is the second highest rate in the European Union, as the first place is taken by Spain with 26.6% (according to November data).

The lowest rates are recorded in Austria with 4.5%, Luxembourg with 5.1% and Germany with 5.4%. In November 2012, unemployment in the Eurozone reached 11.8% and in the EU 10.7%.

According to the same data, Greece has the highest unemployment rate in the EU among young people with 57.6% (September data), while for men the unemployment rate stood at 22.9% and women at 30.1%.
