Marginal improvements in the 2013 tax plans

Marginal improvements in the income tax bracket and equivalent measures to reduce the burden on families of three children, which will be "paid for" by freelancers, are provided in the final government draft discussed on Wednesday night by the prime minister and Yannis Stournaras. Marginal improvements in the income tax bracket and equivalent measures to reduce the burden on families of three children, which will be "paid for" by freelancers, are provided in the final government draft discussed on Wednesday night by the prime minister and Yannis Stournaras. The Finance minister will present the draft to the representatives of the parties possibly tonight, as scheduled, unless there is another delay.

The plan includes increasing the trade tax from 500 to 550 - 650 euros for professionals and those working with receipt pads, and from 900 to 1,000 euros and more for legal persons, i.e. Limited Companies, Limited Liability Companies, Limited Partnerships and General Partnership companies.

The Greek government is also considering the possibility of imposing a 45% tax on incomes over 50,000 euros, instead of the 48,000 provided for in the income tax bracket currently in debate. It also aims to save 2.5 billion euros' worth of revenue from taxes in 2013 with these new tax measures, even though in 2012 the Greeks paid six times the income taxes of 2011 despite decreases in wages and incomes.

The General Secretariat of Information Systems completed the liquidation of almost 5.6 million income tax returns of natural persons. It confirmed taxes of 6.8 billion euros for this year. However, this amount is 6 times the one collected last year from the personal income tax that had not exceeded 1.2 billion euros.

Based on ministry data, Greeks were taxed on an income of 94.2 billion in 2012, compared to 99.8 billion in 2011. Of 5.6 million taxpayers, 3.8 million paid additional taxes totaling 5.5 billion euros. The state also received 1.3 billion euros from emergency contributions (for homes, cars, etc.) and another 300 million from trade fees.

Within the next few days a new batch of 40,809 slips of 2012 tax returns will arrive at the ministry of Finance. Two out of three will be asked to pay a tax of 1,737 euros each. But even before Greeks get ready to pay these taxes, the government is planning new ones for 2013 for additional revenue of 2.5 billion euros.
