For today, Wednesday, a critical day due to the vote on the measures, SYRIZA is awaiting developments in two fronts to identify its opposition tactics and adapt them to the new conditions that will be formulated.
Firstly, they are waiting for the success of the demonstrations and protests across the country against the government policies and measures. And secondly they are expecting if not the rejection of the measures from parliament, which they do not see as possible, at least their approval by a narrow majority. The occurrence of even one of the two conditions will give SYRIZA the opportunity to speak about a government in collapse and decay, which has essentially lost its popular mandate. They will intensify their efforts to reinforce the social struggles against the measures and insist even more on their demand for elections.
Essentially SYRIZA estimates that with the adoption of the measures tonight, the government exhausts all its political capital and enters a phase of rapid deterioration with its fall being a matter of time, as was the case with Papandreou and Papademos’ governments. They also believe that the PASOK and DIMAR parliamentary groups have lost all coherence and cannot provide perpetual support to the government.
