Samaras and Rompuy to meet in the afternoon, political leaders on Sunday

Prime minister Antonis Samaras will discuss the developments surrounding the debt crisis in the Eurozone and the Greek fiscal adjustment program in the meeting with European Council president Herman Van Rompuy this afternoon.

 

Rompuy is expected to stand in favor of Greece’s stay in the Eurozone, highlighting the change of atmosphere for our country. They will also discuss the package of measures that will be presented next week at the Finance ministers’ Eurogroup in Cyprus, and the social reactions encountered in terms of its implementation. The PM is expected to ask for the disbursement of the large tranche of the loan to be occur as soon as possible.

 

The government aims to close the issue at the official Eurogroup on October 8. The meeting with Rompuy comes after Samaras’ contacts with Jean-Claude Juncker, Francois Hollande and Angela Merkel, and before his trip to Frankfurt next Tuesday, where he will meet with ECB president Mario Draghi. In the meantime, he will meet with the Troika team that is in our country, probably on Monday.

 

After efforts and contacts of the staffs of the three parties that support the government, it was decided that the next meeting of the political leaders will be held on Sunday evening, after Yannis Stournaras meeting with the Troika in the afternoon of the same day.

 

Issue of compliance with election commitments by Venizelos

 

PASOK responded with a 10-point non-paper to the discomfort expressed by associates of the prime minister about the criticism he received from party president Evangelos Venizelos in relation to the functioning of government. They persist in their criticism towards the government, calling some people from Antonis Samaras’ environment gullible and declaring that they will do everything to ensure the stability of the government in accordance with the interests of the country.
