Venizelos asks for a national unity government

In his statement on the election result, Evangelos Venizelos said:  "The political landscape of the country has definitely changed today. This change does not mean the end of the crisis. It is determined by the state of the economy and the European correlations. PASOK has taken on a huge political cost. We are greatly responsible for the demagoguery dance, both from the left and the right wing. Today is a painful day for PASOK.  We embittered the people to protect our nation's future. History will judge. I thank our candidates and our voters from the bottom of my heart. They withstood great pressure. We told the truth and nothing but the truth. Now everyone else will be asked to keep their pre-election promises. We have to allow the party to be reborn. This is my personal obligation. I will carry out my duty conscious of our history. All Greeks have to reacquaint themselves with each other. We fought to keep Greece in the euro."

 

He ended by saying that the people did not give a clear mandate to any power, which is why a coalition government of the old bipartisanship system will not have legitimacy, but said yes to the possibility of a government of national unity of Europeanists, and that PASOK will take the initiative in this direction.
