Elections or a government made up of PASOK, ND and other willing parties
There are two scenarions being widely discussed about the day after: a coalition government composed of ND, PASOK and Dora Bakogianni, if she makes it to Parliament, and possibly with DIMAR's indulgence. Whether DIMAR will enter Parliament is a crucial element as otherwise, the required numbers will be hard to come by. It will be even harder for PASOK and ND to demonstrate the political disposition to go it alone, as well as for DIMAR to support such a government.

It should be noted that in the case of ND - and not SYRIZA - occupying the top spot and thereby receiving the 50-seat bonus of the electoral law, there is no possibility of forming an anti-memorandum government. The numbers do not add up, since over 50% is a prerequisite, nor is there the necessary disposition by all political forces.

The second scenario concerns a new round of elections in June, without the government emerging from this first round even being sworn in, as the word is in Ippokratous.

Within this framework Venizelos' puzzling statement, made right after he voted, about "a round of release and a round of decision" makes sense. Moreover, an associate of the party president predicted that "this parliament will never be sworn in". What are the estimates of PASOK officials? That the election result of May 6 and the attending political impasse will set in motion a domino of negative developments from abroad, which will in turn cast doubt on the country's course inside the euro. This will create a climate of fear and panic in the interior, and consequently chaos will prevail in the banking system and the economy.

According to Ippokratous, the obvious dismay about the future of the country which will take hold, will also dominate the climate of the next election round, which will inevitably take place in June and will be annouced by the President of the Republic when he ascertains - in about ten days - the inability to form a government on the basis of the May 6 elections. The PASOK leadership at least are expressing the expectation that in such a political, social and economic climate, the citizens will ultimately vote for the forces of the memorandum and the European course.
