The dramatic hostage incident at the Helesi plastics factory in Komotini
had a happy ending. After several hours of negotiations with the
Police, the 52 yo surrendered while the two people he held hostage were
released and are unharmed.
The public was dumbfounded by the breaking of the story yesterday as the perpetrator gave an interview to our reporters, Dimitris Popotas and Aria Kaliva, at his request.
During the case the unemployed 52 yo injured the 51yo CEO and owner of the company, Athanasios Andrianopoulos and the 30yo employee Emil Ilen Marinov, of Bulgarian citizenship.
According to the director of the Sismanoglio hospital in Komotini, Heracles Chatzinestoros, the injured are hospitalized in good condition and are not at risk.
The perpetrator barged in at the factory yesterday, Thursday, at 1 o’clock holding a shotgun. He was laid off from Helesi at 31 August 2011 because according to the company, he “showed a long-term unstable, disruptive and delinquent behavior at work”.
