“Greece too must take initiatives for EEZs”

After meeting with Cyprus President Demetris Christofias on his three-day visit to Cyprus, ND president Antonis Samaras stressed the need for Greece to take the EEZ proclamation initiatives, similar to those assumed by the late Tassos Papadopoulos.

"The common denominator of marine wealth for both countries also shows the depth of a common strategy that can be developed between Greece and Cyprus on these financial issues," he added.

He affirmed that despite the current economic difficulties that Greece is going through, "the Cyprus dispute remains the top priority issue in our foreign policy."

Lastly, he reiterated his support for the struggle of the Cypriot people towards a viable and functional solution for a single sovereignty, a new international identity and an end to the foreign occupation.

Samaras also met with the president of the Democratic Rally, Nikos Anastasiadis, and discussed issues relating to Cyprus’ undertaking of the EU presidency in the second term.
