Therefore, the Left must be confident towards itself and the strength of the society, and of course overcome its tendency to be trapped in internal rivalries and conflicts," Tsipras said.

When asked about the causes that led to the current crisis the SYRIZA president, characterized by the newspaper as "the youngest political leader in a dialogue with young people," spoke of "a pillage of the public interest" with "the contracts of the Olympiad, the Defense expenditure, the tax immunity of the capital and the poor absorption of European funds not used on production recovery plans."

Regarding the measures and the new requirements of the Troika, Tsipras said that "it is an organized plan that has little to do with the debt and deficit problem. What they want is to destroy the labour market, completely demolish the welfare state and sell to individuals - themselves that is - the potential wealth of the country. The recession is extremely useful for this end, so they reproduce it with austerity measures. And this is also why they are leading their policy from one failure to another. When they no longer have anything to take from us, they will lead us to default."

Finally, regarding the possibility that SYRIZA could "be identified with a permanent rejection of the economic proposals of international financial institutions," Tsipras replied that "we reject the neoliberal obsession, a victim of which is the Greece of the memorandum. International organizations compare the unfolding global financial crisis and its possible evolution to a crisis of real economy, with the great depression of the '30s, and they recommend the policies followed by Hoover which made things even worse, instead of the Roosevelt policy, which actually dealt with the crisis.
