Vendetta between Venizelos and the bankers

End of story: State involvement through the Financial Stability Fund in the recapitalization of Greek banks will happen with common shares.

"This is not a legal obligation for me but a personal issue of honor," says Evangelos Venizelos and explains why: "The Greek people will help recapitalize the banks with 40 billion, which is assumed by the public debt. And they must have consideration and perspective to get it back."

The finance minister says the state does not seek to nationalize the banks. "This is one thing, and it is quite another to protect specific individuals and interests. And if it annoys some or adds obstacles in my personal course, it leaves me completely indifferent or empowers me to implement this decision of the parliament," he said in his speech at the parliament meeting for the budget.

According to his colleagues, "his attitude towards bankers is the cause of the attacks he receives from a portion of the press." The deal for deposits in Swiss banks also moves in the same direction of the conflict with the establishment, with the PASOK leadership succession in the background.

"The agreement with Switzerland is an historic event. We are now bringing on a contract and are clashing with the European Commission, which does not want its member-states to hold individual contracts with Switzerland, but we will follow the example of Germany and the United Kingdom", he told his interlocutors.
 
The reply to Chrisochoidis

Within this framework he replied to Chrisochoidis’s attack as to what the government had done in the past two years:

•     there are responsibilities of institutions such as the government, there are responsibilities for the parties, but there are also individual responsibilities and I feel that that as the finance minister of this country I have one, too
•     I undertook these tasks five months ago, in the middle or should I say at the peak of the crisis, I have taken over responsibilities in which I have no subjective involvement and I have not spoken about them and never will.
