Papandreou braces himself

The government policy the day after the apparent impasse, was described by a senior government agent and one of the closest associates of the PM. “If Samaras does  not agree, then Papandreou has no reason to step down”, he argued and wondered “why leave? After that, it’s a matter of PASOK, not Samaras”.

The top government agent mentioned that in the procedures to follow, there will be every effort on the part of the government to find a formula for cooperation with the opposition parties, and especially New Democracy.

According to government sources, the discovery of a solution through the Presidency was chosen in order to avoid “June events”. People close to the PM note that in June, the effort was torpedoed due to “leaks” from the opposition to the media, while negotiations were ongoing. The President can shield the procedures.
