PASOK and ND parliament members seeking a coalition government

A letter which will request setting up a government of national salvation, in order to secure the European agreement and the sixth tranche in order to avoid bankruptcy, has been prepared by at least 15 to 20 PASOK and ND members.

The initiative belongs to Vasso Papandreou, in cooperation with PASOK Members (Dinos Vrettos, Odysseas Konstantinopoulos, Dimitris Karidis, et al) and ND members (Aris Spiliotopoulos, Kostis Hatzidakis, Kiriakos Mitsotakis, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, Evangelos Antonaros et al), signed the document, but after Samaras’ intervention, during which  he requested a transitional government for the loan agreement, they decided to freeze their actions pending developments.

Members met at Mr. Vrettos' office on the first floor of the House, drew up a text and signed it, but while preparing to hand it to the public, the speech by the New Democracy party president began, which asked for a transitional government and elections.

The inter-party letter states:

“The country’s future is hanging by a thread. The dramatic events of recent days have radically changed facts and require an immediate and unambiguous redefinition of priorities and strategies by everyone. The political crisis in progress should not lead to a national crisis. For this reason, there is a need to engage as many parliamentary forces as necessary in order to guarantee:

- The confirmation of the undeniable presence of our country in the EU and of course our remaining in the Eurozone
- Ratification of the Framework Agreement of October 27th by the current Parliament with the greatest possible majority
- Ensuring the survival of our country with the early release of the sixth tranche within prescribed procedures

For this reason, we need the immediate establishment of a government of national salvation, which will take it upon itself to fulfill the national aspirations and then will lead the country to elections as safely and quickly as possible”.
