Venizelos appears reassuring about latest developments
During the press conference earlier today, Venizelos mentioned that the talks with the Troika had already been scheduled to be suspended and kick off again on September 14.

“We did not manage to agree on numbers, that is why we dropped any efforts for now; nevertheless, this was scheduled”, the Greek FinMin stated during a press conference, in an attempt to appear calm after the unexpected turn the talks took.
During the press conference earlier today, he mentioned that the talks with the Troika had been scheduled to be suspended and kick off again on September 14.
The minister underlined that no further measures are to be taken while the agreed-upon ones are to be applied. Furthermore, he stressed that the state believes that if people are cooperative enough and pay the taxes imposed on them, then the massive catering VAT rate can be lowered. According to Venizelos, the Troika representatives are concerned about the recession which, as the minister pointed out, will move at a higher level than expected. “The recession will be around 5% and this alone alters the facts”, he said.
Venizelos once again repeated that negotiations are conducted on an amicable and very productive basis.
