Diamantopolou against Deans about protests
During an interview at a radio station, Minister of Education Anna Diamantopoulou turned against Rectors and students proceeding with occupations and protests against the new law on Higher Education.

Mrs. Diamantopoulou spoke of “miserable lies” which she said, “are deliberately disseminated in order to create turbulence to students who have not read the law”.

The Education Minister also clarified that there is absolutely no issue of fees for any undergraduate courses, while reiterating that textbooks will be provided free of charge and there will be additional access to all electronic notes of universities across the country.

“Greek universities are paid for by the Greek taxpayers, wherein the latter entrust their children, and thus Greek universities - or some forces within them - cannot possibly imagine that they are communes where students decide the time and place of their exams, where the Senators of universities can postpone examinations, and that all of the above will be without cost”, stated Mrs. Diamantopoulou.

With regard to Mr. Pelegrinis’ statements, in which he said that he cannot prevent student protests, the Education Minister said that “the specific Rector has been elected by certain political factions. Those factions and the dean have common interests. Therefore, the dean will come out and tell the children they can do whatever they want”.
