Ragoussis’ “race” for a solution to the taxi problem
Transport minister Yannis Ragoussis is in successive meetings at the relevant ministry with taxi owners’ representatives as well as other unions from similar or equally affected sectors.

After meeting with Ragoussis, SETE (the Union of Greek Tourist Businesses) president Andreas Andreadis said that his union supports the taxi sector’s deregulation and announced that the minister is about to present them with his suggestions and timetable concerning the dialogue between him and the cabbies.

Moreover, Mrs Andreadis said that SETE has already planned to submit proposals to the minister describing how taxi services will be upgraded according to EU standards. Furthermore, he underlined that there is an increase of 10% in tourist traffic this year, corresponding to 1% of the GDP.

However, Andreadis made clear that if this situation persists, then Greece will see a tourist traffic decrease beginning in August and affecting September, too.

In the meantime, there are already 82 case files against more than 6.000 taxi drivers, as the Citizen Protection minister announced. The main offence recorded has to do with traffic obstruction.
