Two crime organisations uncovered

The police uncovered and arrested most members of two criminal organisations that operated with drugs and the "protection" of shops and night clubs, mostly on the island of Zakynthos but also in the wider area of Athens, after months of undercover surveillance.

The two heads of the organisations were arrested as well as six members, 5 in Zakynthos and 1 in Athens. All the detainees are Greeks and there is a lawsuit against thirty five more persons for involvement in crimes and general illegal conduct.

From the investigation the police discovered the organisations functioned with hierachy and specific roles for each member. The first organisation was mostly involved with drugs (cocaine, cannabis, ecstasy and MDMA), weapons sales and extortions. The second was solely drug-based and specifically dealt in cocaine and cannabis. The organisation  "invested" the money in expensive cars and yachts.

The police had records of some of the members for years, and they were followed by undercover police. Furthermore, the officials discovered a plan the members of these crime organisations had made to help a convicted felon and a member of their group to escape from prison.

During the search the police confiscated:

a twelve-meter yacht and two boats

3,500 euro

small amounts of cocaine

a 9mm weapon

a Magnum weapon

a 0,38 Special weapon

150 bullets

14 mobile phones.
