Get those gypsy tents off Syntagma Sq.!
Today Mr. Miltiadis Papaioannou, new Minister of Justice, presented his general secretary, as well as his opinions on Syntagma Square
Today Mr. Miltiadis Papaioannou, new Minister of Justice, presented his general secretary, as well as his opinions on Syntagma Square and the Inidgnants that are camping there. He characterized the phenomenon as “gypsy tents” saying that “a peaceful demonstration is one thing and these gypsy tents in Syntagma are another matter. Our tourism and shops in Athens have been afflicted by this situation. Mr.Kaminis is the Mayor of this City and he should be involved in this. The people camping in the Square are not those who come every Sunday to demonstrate”, said the minister.
When asked about the reports of unprecedented and raw violence of the MAT special police forces in the center of Athens, with the extensive and inexplicable use of chemicals, he replied that “I do not have an opinion. Justice is investigating it and the results will come out soon”.
The Minister referred to the attacks against MPs which have been occurring lately and said that “Violence, whichever its source, is the worst enemy of Democracy. There are more than 100 incidents noted and it is an ideological problem that we need to solve.” he said.
