Theo Waigel, former Finance Minister of Germany, the same man who a few
days ago declared Greece had conned the EU to get into the Eurozone, is
now claiming that Greece has not received money from the EU, just
guarantees and commitments.
Speaking at a conference of the CSU, Mr.Waigel noted that German citizens are under the impression that their governement spends millions to pay off the Greek debt but in reality not one euro has been spent for Greece from the German state coffers. He is calling on Mrs Merkel and the European Central Bank to actually help Greece in order to minimize German public opinion of disgust towards the EU. "We have not given a cent to Greece, simply guarantees and commitments, that is words, and we need to let the German people know this" said the former Minister.
