A man threw his belt at the Bishop of Dimitriada

Panic prevailed at the panegyric Vespers in the church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Volos, where a 32-year old man suddenly took off his belt and hurled it at Bishop Ignatius of Dimitriada, hitting him in the face. 

Coastguard officers standing next to the icon intervened immediately, and pinned down the offender, who was arrested and has been detained. The Vespers service continued normally when the turmoil caused by the attack calmed down, while the bishop gave absolution to the offender’s sins, stating that he is a man facing serious problems and that the Bishop loves him. 

According to reports, the 32-year old was heard earlier in the courtyard accusing the Church because, as he said, it does not help the poor. Information mentions that he often stood outside the church asking for financial help.
