The atmosphere in Athens has been tense since early this afternoon.

Shortly after 20:15, demonstrators returned to Propulaea and then dispersed, but anti-authoritarians are still gathered at the spot.

Earlier, tension prevailed outside Parliament. Demonstrators threw stones and bottles at riot police who responded with tear gas, making the atmosphere unbreatheable. Unknown persons set fire to all trash bins located on Panepistimiou street.

Meanwhile, at least five individuals wearing masks destroyed the wreaths that had been left on site to honour the Marfin Bank victims on 23 Stadiou Street.

With the University Senate building under occupation, hundreds of anti-authoritarians have been protesting since 7pm in downtown Athens against the serious wounding of 30-year-old Giannis Kafkas, who is fighting for his life at the Nikaia State Hospital.
