Despite the fact that the festive opening hours for stores, along with the Easter excursions, have begun, traffic in the market is still at low seasonal levels, similar to those of the weather. So even though large commercial streets are full of people, those who actually spend money are very few.

And this is because, as representatives of the National Confederation of Greek Commerce stated in protothema.gr, the primary concern for troubled consumers is to meet other obligations such as bills, loans and credit cards. Initial estimates indicate that commerce has dropped by 20% while the the market has seen a corresponding slump at the beginning of the Holy Week.

On the other hand, increased commerce is recorded in telephony and internet stores, as well as large shopping malls.

We should note here that the debts of Greek households to banks reach 352 mil euros, while the outstanding obligations to mobile phone networks during the last year amount to 100 mil euros.

Meanwhile, the amount of unpaid EYDAP bills reaches 25 mil euros, while a bigger problem is recorded in PPC bills where the amount due reaches over 120 mil euros.
