Laptop containing tax evidence stolen!

Literal (?) stories of everyday madness are unfolding in the Treasury! On Thursday, according to information obtained by protothema.gr, a tax employee’s laptop was stolen, and the matter was “hushed” by officials, who presumed to characterise it as petty theft. Protothema.gr’s revelation was confirmed by the Ministry of Finance.

Even though the two cases are not related, the information obtained by protothema.gr reveals a more serious case: both the employee’s computerand the files removed from the 4th floor near the secretary-general contained information on cases of tax evasion and money laundering, as well as evidence linking investigations with suspected terrorists.

An investigation has already been conducted by the Tavros Police Department, during which the people involved with the handling of the files were asked not to leave their offices. Investigations are continuing, while a preliminary investigation has been ordered by the prosecutor.

As for the tax officer, Nikos Andreopoulos, who is being prosecuted as the mastermind behind the 2 million euro theft from the Tax Office, was found in Daphni, a psychiatric hospital in Athens!
