The developments in the case of the immigrants of Hypatia swept away the discussion for the bill of the Environment ministry to such an extent that the Internal Affairs minister was forced to come to parliament to give the necessary explanations.

The minister said the government made no exception to the current legislation, and added that «the final policy decision was to avoid conflict… From the first moment we said that we have a framework within which we can move, that of Law 3907. Ultimately, we did not give any residence permits and stayed within the framework of this law».

Ragousis cited the words of LAOS president Giorgos Karatzaferis, who had said «At last, do something as long as no one dies», adding that the government gave nothing from what the hunger strikers asked for, and only applied the current provisions.
