PM Giorgos Papandreou scolded VP Thodoros Pangalos after the latter's statements about debt restructuring.
In his address to the cabinet, Papandreou advised him that he cannot say whatever he wants whenever he feels like it.
The PM, clearly uneasy, stressed that “it is us that must be very careful as to what we say, especially regarding our loan issues. And I would like you to follow the lead of the minister of Finance or of my statements on this. Otherwise, even if everything is debatable, it can also be misunderstood”…
A little earlier he had said that “a lot has been written and claimed lately as we all know and have seen these past months, and we witnessed it today too, with the alleged German restructuring plans for the Greek debt. The tiniest story, especially when it is malicious or mistrustful, can cause trouble for us as a country. Not insurmountable trouble, but there is no reason to have to deal with such problems,” concluded the PM.
