Workers march at OTA

The OTA worker march started shortly after 10:00 from Karaiskaki square and finished a little while ago at the ministry of Internal Affairs. 

Earlier, the protesters came into conflict with a group of men of the Municipal Police, whom they attacked verbally.

There was tension shortly after 11.30 outside the Parliament, where policemen prevented them from entering.

Right now Vas. Sofias is closed from Sekeri to Amalias, while Stadiou was re-opened minutes ago.

The strikers tried to meet with representatives of the Ministry of Internal affairs but were not accepted and as a result decided to close the landfill site at Ano Liosia.

At the same time, the garbage has formed small hills in Athens, Piraeus and Thessaloniki. The bins are overflowing with waste, thus, in many cases, it is difficult for people to move on the sidewalks.

If the strike continues the problem is expected to grow, since the garbage has remained on the streets since last Friday. Officials of the local cleaning stations are asking people to keep their trash bags on their balconies.
