"ITS, eCall and Road Safety" conference starts on April 25 in Athens

As it was announced today, the eCall initiative, designed to bring rapid assistance to motorists involved in a collision through the installation of life-saving eCall devices in cars, will be unveiled at an international conference to take place on Friday, April 25 at the ministry of infrastructure, networks and transport.

In case of a crash, an eCall-equipped car automatically calls the nearest emergency centre. Even if no passenger is able to speak, e.g. due to injuries, a "Minimum Set of Data" is sent, which includes the exact location of the crash site. Therefore, shortly after the accident emergency services know that there has been an accident and where.

The International Conference on "ITS, eCall and Road Safety" is organized in the context of the Greek EU Presidency in cooperation with the European Commission and ERTICO-ITS Europe, the coordinator of the HeERO European project concerning the pilot implementation of the eCall initiative in Europe.
