Theodorakis to FT: Greece needs logical solutions
Financial Times has published an interview of Stavros Theodorakis, where the head of the party "The River" proposes solutions for Greece to turn over a new leaf.

In the introduction of the interview, the journalist describes Stavros Theodorakis as follows: "To understand the message Stavros Theodorakis is trying to get across, one only needs to look at him. He invariably wears a T-shirt, military-style jacket and trainers and this look makes for a striking contrast with the majority of Greek politicians, from whom he is trying to distance himself as much as possible".

"I felt powerless as a journalist, so I turned to politics as a way of trying to change things", he said regarding his decision to launch the “The River”, a party that “is already polling in double digits” despite being founded just seven weeks ago, as the article states.

"People feel the old system has failed...At this point in the crisis  Greece doesn’t need leftwing or rightwing governments, it needs logical solutions... making a priority of protecting people who are in difficulty", says Stavros Theodorakis.

Theodorakis cites three priorities, according to Financial Times: cracking down on tax evasion, creating an efficient public administration and providing opportunities for young people who are now leaving to work abroad.

"With support of between 11% and 13% according to most polls, 'The River' has become unexpectedly the third party in Greece", the newspaper writes and notes that Stavros Theodorakis will not run for MEP.

Asked by the reporter if he is funded by specific business groups, Stavros Theodorakis replied: "Our financial requirements are quite small. We get by on small donations from a lot of people and we don’t pay any salaries. We don’t have big outlays on security or vehicles, and everyone who works for us is a volunteer".
