500 million euros to households, 1 billion to businesses until Easter
"Every week, a positive surprise," says the Greek government. And for anyone who did not understand what the surplus means, the economic team is preparing a series of good news for the market and the Greek society for the next two months.

The good news this week was the 500 million euros for households and 1 billion for businesses. This development has even overshadowed the departure of the troika, who is more likely to occupy itself with Greece only on a positive scale in the coming weeks and months.

In the 1.5 billion euros announced by the Prime Minister the government is preparing to add other benefits around Easter.

Who will get a lump-sum income support between 200 and 800 euros in May?

Approximately 1,000,000 people will receive a social dividend from the primary surplus of the state budget of 2013, an average of 450 euros each. The supply will be lump sum and might not escalate. The criteria will be based on income and assets, Finance Ministry sources said.

But even if the amount does escalate the vast majority of beneficiaries will receive 350-500 euros each.

Based on the initial calculations, the lump sum income support will be given to approximately 400,000 family benefits beneficiaries, 300,000 low pensioners, OGA pensioners, 230,000 unemployed, the disabled, etc.

Also to about 60,000 military and police personnel, firefighters and port officials with monthly earnings up to 1,500 euros. They will share about 30 million euros.

The 20 million euros that will be allocated for food and shelter for the homeless is only the beginning. In the coming days new announcements are expected for supporting people who are in extreme need due to the crisis.

Another 60 million euros will be given for pay rises of active and retired judges, in compliance with relevant decisions of the high courts.

In the following days or weeks the government will announce selective measures to support the "removal of injustices" of certain pensioners, like unmarried daughters. Thousands of civil servants will see fluctuations in their earnings possibly from next month.

Businesses will receive 1 billion euros for overdue debts of the state, beyond the 1.08 billion that was planned from the start. This has no financial costs but could provide relief, supplementing the 500 million euros to households.

Developments are also expected within the week for the 150 million euros to support the energy-intensive industries.

A large part of the benefits will return again in state funds, either as excise duties, income and social insurance contributions, or because they will be used to repay debts from taxes of taxpayers.

The Greek government has not included in its estimates the payment of arrear increases in salaries and pensions of uniformed personnel which have been estimated at about 500 million euros. The reason is that the relevant decisions of the Council of State have not yet been issued.

A meeting between the relevant officials of ministries is scheduled today to precisely determine the number of beneficiaries and the criteria by which they will share 505 million euros.
