Natural gas: Discount at 10-12% on the price for households
Consumers will have a significant alleviation in their expenses after the DEPA-Gazprom agreement to reduce the price of natural gas as the Environment Ministry announced Tuesday.

But the reduction will not be at 15%, but at 10-12% as DEPA is not importing gas only from the Russian company. In each case, it represents a significant discount which puts Greece in average rate of the continental EU while this price is among the lowest compared to the neighboring countries of Greece for long term contracts with Gazprom.

As for how the difference will be collected as the agreement announced Tuesday is with a retroactive effect from 1 July 2013, it will not be in cash but in the form of discounts.

Market insiders believe that the discounts will be visible in the bills in April as reports indicate that the new contract will be signed in mid-March and after the approval by the Board and the General Meeting of DEPA.

It should be noted finally that the agreement is initially valid until 2016, with an extension for another decade and furthermore the possibility ensured in the negotiations for two new revisions, the first one after two years.
