10.8 million euros in fines the past four months for "black" labour
Ministry of Labour and Social Security auditors imposed fines of 10.8 million euros after the checks conducted between September 15 - January 31, as the Labour Ministry announced today Thursday.

According to figures from the implementation of the specific operational plan “Artemis” for the inspection of undeclared work, 7,878 companies were checked and in a total of 49,126 workers 1,063 were found undocumented. It should be reminded that for every undocumented worker a fine is imposed equal to 18 times the minimum wage, that is, 10,550 euros.

First in the transgression list is the catering industry with 391 uninsured workers and is followed by bakeries, garages, gas stations, clothing stores and transport.

According to Labour Minister Yannis Vroutsis, "these positive developments are reflected in the course of proceeds for the insurance funds. For the fourth consecutive month, in January 2014, IKA revenue increased for the first time since 2009."
