Concern in the MOF: Only 220 of the 800 million euros in taxes were paid
The Ministry of Finance is anxious while waiting to see the collection rate it will have from taxes on the last two days of January.

The first signs are hardly encouraging as until Thursday night, according to information from capital.gr, banks have received about 220 million euros while the critical day was Friday, figures for which will be available Monday afternoon.

The total certified amount of the five taxes that should have been paid by Friday, Jan. 31 stood at around 800 million euros and the ministry will wait in February as well, when it will complete a large circle of property taxes. The collection performance will largely determine the size of the primary surplus which in turn will determine the range of income-based benefits to be given before the elections, in accordance with the commitment of the PM Samaras to return to the citizens 70% of the excess of the primary surplus.

The ministry is also concerned about the growing abstinence of taxpayers from their tax obligations, as reflected in the figures of the continuous increase in arrears to the state.

In 2013 only from property taxes the total overdue debt of taxpayers increased by about 500 million euros to 1 billion euros.

Taxpayers have another bitter bill ahead at the end of February. It is about 500 million euros of the three doses of Property Tax for 2011, 2012 and 2013 and the last installment of the hike for 2013.
