The PM will attempt to rally the Parliamentary Group of New Democracy

Samaras’ dilemma to the blue MPs to reverse the climate of defeatism
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras plans to optimism “injection” and morale boosting at the meeting of the Parliamentary Group of his party this Thursday as he finds that a climate of defeatism compounded by the difficulties of negotiating with the troika tends to prevail among its members.

He will repeat the basic achievements of the government and argue that the basic dilemma of elections is whether the country will continue its path to recovery and growth or regress to the exit path from the eurozone. He will urge his MPs to give the battle of elections and regional elections and announce that he will reinforce the young generation of MPs leaving hopes for the upcoming reshuffling.

The Greek government believes the European elections battle can be won and that polls show a SYRIZA lead at the limit of statistical error and justify their belief that it is "completely reversible."

The difficulties of the Greek government are in the negotiation with the troika which despite Stournaras’ optimistic statements does not seem to be willing to agree for a month and a half now. Apart from the financial gap which is widening the government is pressed to proceed with structural reforms on the basis of the OECD report. Although the report claims that if implemented all the changes would benefit around 5 billion euros for the Greek economy ministers and MPs currently measure the social reactions and political costs they will bring. Stournaras said that alternative proposals have been sent to Troika. Although he did not mention their content it is believed they are about "discounts relating to structural changes." Open issues for the government lie with medicines, milk, deregulation of layoffs in the private sector, farmers reactions to changed in their taxation and the privatization of PPC’s network.

The bad news are coming from Europe too as Olli Rehn said that "the debate on the Greek debt and the financing gap in Greece will begin in the summer." The government wants the debate to take place before the European elections even if the final decision is not taken immediately. Of course even in the positive version lie the question of whether Greece’s partners will accept the main estimates of the Greek government or proceed with a single solution for all open issues.
