Cooperation between USA and Greece for Xiros’ escape

"We are in close contact with the Greek authorities for their efforts to find the escaped terrorist," deputy State Department spokesman, Marie Harf said yesterday, when asked if the U.S. are actively involved in the investigation on terrorism in Greece.

Although, as she said, it is a Greek investigation, she added that the U.S. are prepared to provide support to the Greek government if needed.

The previous day, the deputy spokesman reiterated a statement by a State Department official, expressing deep concern about the fact that Christodoulos Xiros remains at large and is now reportedly threatening with acts of new violence.

Extremely tight security measures and continuous raids on homes

Meanwhile, Hellenic Police forces are now at the highest alarm as on a daily basis new information comes to light that supports the new terrorist attack scenario after Christodoulos Xiros’ escape and his possible partnership with newer and uncaught or escapee members of armed organizations.

Last on the list of evidence the information that the “Manolis” of "17 November" confided before his escape in a trusted person that "this cannot go on anymore, we must take action." The same police sources add that the person heard Xiros revealing that there already is a team ready for action.

This is why Hellenic Police proceed daily to operations in Athens and Thessaloniki targeting persons likely to be Xiros’ support team. Within three days there have been dozens of raids on homes in Athens and Thessaloniki and seven people were arrested.

At the same time the Greek authorities constantly review the security measures on the purported "red" targets while having turned their attention in meetings and official visits conducted under the Greek Presidency of the EU.
