Troika: 'No' to property tax, Vroutsis’ plan and Defence Industry
Troika: 'No' to property tax, Vroutsis’ plan and Defence Industry
The negotiation with the Troika continues with problems as Greece’s lenders constantly put new obstacles causing anxiety in the government and concern to the MPs of the coalition.
Merkel’s exhortation to close the deal as to not burden Greece when she takes over the EU presidency, seems to work only for the Greek side as the lenders’ representatives do not seem to change their stance. It is doubtful whether the deal will close before December 9. But in any case the tranche pending since June will not be disbursed and the country will meet its loan obligations by issuing Treasury bills. As shown by the meeting with Merkel her political support is exhausted in a temporary improvement of the internal political climate.
The Greek government has already backed-off on the issue of the financial gap from 500 million to 1.5 billion euros, with Troika insisting on 1.8 billion, while the difference in the method of collecting more than 500 million euros still lingers.
Indicative of the situation is the rejection by e-mail of the plan for taxing property that defers its filing. It should be noted that again due to the Troika’s disagreement the Yannis Vroutsis bill on changes in the insurance has not yet filed, and the problem with the Defence Industry has not been solved.
Things are easier with the layoffs of civil servants as Kyriakos Mitsotakis said he has the 15,000 employees for 2013 and 2014.
The most difficult issue might be the bill for the deregulation of auctions on the first residence despite constant assurances by government agents for the protection of the poor and those who can not pay.
Government officials expressing are concerned about whether the critical bills will go through parliament without any losses for the government majority.

The mood among ND MPs has deteriorated from Yannis Stournaras’ statements that "Greece is not over-taxed." Apart from the MPs who at every opportunity disapprove him, Christos Staikouras and party secretary Andreas Papamimikos also have a different view.
