Greece is not on the agenda in today's Eurogroup meeting
Stournaras expected to face Eurozone Finance ministers
Finance Minister Y. Stournaras is in Brussels to attend the Eurogroup meeting today. However, the discussions are not expected to include the Greek issue and mostly revolve around the budgets of countries outside the memoranda.
However, as previously announced by Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Stournaras is expected to face the questioning of the Eurozone Finance ministers for the delays in the completion of the agreement with the Troika.
Regarding Greece and answering questions of "Ta Nea" newspaper, Dijsselbloem said the Greek government should urgently implement its commitments and directly promote the necessary structural changes, which are considered a must in order to regain competitiveness and attract investments.
“Greece has still a lot of work ahead,” he stressed, while referring to the negotiations with the Troika he said “the negotiations continue in Athens for the progress or rather the lack thereof of the country against its commitments. The evaluation process must be completed immediately. Many Eurozone finance ministers have begun to lose their patience.”
However, Euro Working Group head Thomas Wieser pointed yesterday the progress achieved in Greece, but also the Greek government’s need to accelerate the agreed reforms.
"Greece shows a good performance in the field of fiscal policy. The 2014 budget deficit is projected to be one of the lowest in the Eurozone. This does not mean that the job is done, but we are close," he said in an interview with the Athens News Agency.
