Merkel: Possible haircut of the Greek debt could create turmoil
Greece is expected to achieve a primary surplus at the end of 2013, the German Chancellor says
Possible clipping of the Greek debt would create great uncertainty in the Eurozone, Angela Merkel said at her standard annual interview, adding that Greece is expected to achieve a primary surplus at the end of 2013.
More generally, she sees progress in the Eurozone countries that have been hit by the crisis.
Referring to the general debt crisis, which has hit the eurozone, Merkel said it will take several years to stabilize the situation and that there are still significant steps to be taken in order for the economy to adopt and grow stronger against external shocks. "Our task is to overcome the European debt crisis and place healthier growth foundations," the German Chancellor said.
