Samaras: VAT in catering will be immediately reduced from 23% to 13%

Moments ago Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras announced the immediate reduction of VAT in catering from 23% to 13% in a televised statement.

"Not only do we ward off some unpleasant issues, but we impose positive changes as well. Contrary to what some people claimed, we have achieved our goals."

Samaras said the reduction will come into effect from August 1, and admitted that, "I told Troika that the VAT reduction will bring profits and they still do not believe it."

He also said that due to the achievement of objectives, there will be no implementation of measures for 2014 that were voted in the memorandum.

He added that there will be no cuts in pensions and salaries of military personnel and that the Greek government will not impose an additional tax of 2 per thousand in the turnovers of business.
