SYRIZA looking towards the Democratic Left

Intense activity is developed in the Left and around SYRIZA, based on the new data after the governmental reshuffle. The departure of DIMAR from the government and the centrifugal tendencies in PASOK due to its siding with ND, trigger discussions and concerns related to the Left and Center-Left opposition.

SYRIZA considers that for the first time its peculiar political isolation has been broken, since until now it was forced to walk alone against a tripartite government, at least from the Left, given that KKE kept an equal distance towards the opposition and the government body.

Now SYRIZA can hope to have some interlocutors, although many believe that it is too early for substantive contacts with forces or the leadership of DIMAR, as the party of Fotis Kouvelis is expected to give a new political stigma.

Already within SYRIZA voices are heard towards a leftist united initiative.

However, Koumoundourou from now on will be inviting DIMAR to clarify its position on the political scene having to choose between the memorandum policy or not. It believes that even if the leadership of DIMAR chooses the role of an outsider partner of the Greek government, as Dimitris Papadimoulis said, then it is possible that an important part of the base of Kouvelis’ party might turn towards SYRIZA, as the recent crisis has revealed the strong resistance of this space in the old two-party system.
