Both the European Council and European Commission presidents expressed today their grief over the death of Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, saluting the "social development" he brought to Venezuela.
"The EU has been informed with regret for the announcement of the death of the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Hugo Chavez. Venezuela stood out for its social development and contribution to the regional integration in South America," Herman Van Rompuy and Jose Manuel Barroso said in a joint statement.
Rompuy and Barroso expressed their desire to be able to "deepen the relations" between Caracas and the EU and send the Venezuelans "their sincere condolences and sympathy."
