UPD:
Households could not stand the unbearable taxation by the Finance ministry and during the first twenty days of January, they have spent in heating oil more than what they did during the entire January of 2012 to get warm.
However, quantities this year will be even lower than half than last year due to reduction in consumption.
But at the same time, government revenues from diesel fuel are sinking, as drivers seem to have stopped using their cars and are not consuming fuel any longer.
According to information, during the first 20 days of January 135,000 tons of heating oil were bought throughout Greece and the government received 44.5 million from the increased excise fee. At this rate it looks like about 200,000 tons will be sold by the end of the month.
But last January Greeks had purchased 618,000 tons throughout the month, corresponding to deliveries of 400,000 tons in the first twenty days. But last January the government had received only 37 million euros of excise fee and in January this year the government will collect about 7.5 to 10 million more than last year.
This amount is nothing compared to the goal of equalizing taxes set by the Greek government at 500 million euros for this year.
But even these revenues are eliminated by the downward trend in revenues from the excise tax on diesel fuel sales. 118,000 tons were sold in the first twenty days of this January, bringing 39 million euros to the state coffers, and will barely reach 170,000 tons and 55-60 million euros by the end of the month. Last year, however, around January, 177,000 tons were sold and the government had received 73 million euros, but based on the data so far, it is in danger of losing 12-17 million euros this January. Thus, the loss of public revenue is expected to continue this month too, causing new pressures on the economy team to find additional revenue through other taxes and hikes.
